The Wood
Remembers

Yorvik does not restore the past. We listen to it. In the deep grain of 1200-year-old oak, in the carved bone of a comb lost in Jorvik's mud, in the runes cut by a hand that knew nothing of Rome—we find the voices that frost preserved. The wood holds the storm that felled it. We are the translators of the silent.

► FEHU · CATTLE · WEALTH
The First Fire

The rune of移动 wealth. Not the gold in the hoard, but the cattle that walks, the trade that flows, the fire that spreads. Carved on a bronze brooch found in a Coppergate pit, its edges still sharp after eleven centuries. The hand that cut it believed in movement. We honour that belief.

The Wild Bone

The aurochs is gone from the earth, but its shape remains in this rune. Strength not of the sword, but of the shoulder—the beast that pulls the plough through soil no Roman ever saw. We carve it on oak beams that still bear the weight of a roof built when York was Jorvik, and the north was everything.

► THURISAZ · THURS · THORN
The Giant's Gate

Protection and pain, the thorn that guards the rose, the giant that guards the bridge. This rune appears on a whalebone gaming piece, its surface worn smooth by a thousand thumbs. The player who held it sought luck in chance. We hold it now, and seek meaning in the worn.
